Mr. Fitzgerald Mitchell, Chief Executive Officer
Having been a part of the University Management Team for several years, I consider it an honour to serve in the capacity of Chief Executive Officer. It is my pleasure to welcome you all, our immediate community, Jamaica and the wider Caribbean. On behalf of the 2,500 dedicated healthcare professionals whom are committed to help you achieve optimum long-term health, I want to take a minute to start with the core of our purpose, which is, health care delivered with our guiding principles: Respect, Integrity, Teamwork, Excellence, and Equity (RITE).
From a primary healthcare perspective, we strives to deliver compassionate medical care for every stage of life. Through our continuum of healthcare services and its affiliation with the University of the West Indies (UWI), the Tony Thwaites Wing (TTW), and the Hugh Wynter Fertility Unit (HWFU), families have access to high-quality, patient-centered care that is coordinated and conveniently located close to home.
As a regional and community hospital, we feel a deep sense of pride and commitment to all those who place their trust in our care. Our primary focus is to deliver exceptional care that exceeds national standards in quality, safety, and patient satisfaction. The UHWI strives to be on the cutting edge of delivering exceptional, personalized, one-on-one care; as exemplified during the recent pandemic. With our team of highly trained professionals, who truly care about our patients, we offer services for women’s breast care needs through advanced technology such as 3D Mammography, Nuclear Medicine, Interventional Suite, Digital X-ray Services, Emergency Medicine, and Paediatric Care, we strive for even greater excellence and doing it RITE. True to our commitment to continuous improvement, the UHWI is in the process of transformation with:
- how we provide service to our clients
- how we treat our staff
- the building of our first Tower
With the proposed building of a one (1) Tower healthcare facility, our focus will be on health technology, which will allow us to deliver today’s portfolio of integrated solutions to help the Jamaican citizenry, and, by extension, people of the region to stay healthy and prevent disease. By providing the Clinicians with the necessary tools to make precision diagnoses, deliver minimally-invasive treatments and provide better patient care, we are able to further extend care outside the Hospital, and help people to live with chronic conditions at home.
