Plus Appeals to COVID-19 survivors to donate Convalescent Plasma

The University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI) has implemented changes to its Outpatient Department (OPD) operations due to the increasing COVID-19 cases. The changes will begin in August 2020 and will reduce the risks of infection to its stakeholders.

Please note the following changes:

  • Patients with appointments will be allowed in the OPD 15 minutes before their scheduled time.

  • Patients must wear a face mask/covering while in the OPD.

  • Patients will be asked to leave the OPD as soon as they have been seen.

  • Persons with referrals are asked to drop these off at the Hospital’s Customer Care Centre or email them to medical.records@uhwi.gov.jm
  • Patients who miss their appointment, wish to cancel or reschedule their appointment or need prescriptions are asked to text their request to 876-541-1232 or 876-541-1249.

The Hospital is also appealing to individuals who have recovered from COVID-19 to donate convalescent plasma to help treat other ill COVID-19 patients.  Donors must be between the ages of 18 and 60 years, previously confirmed positive for COVID-19 by a laboratory test, and fully recovered from the virus and symptom-free for at least 14 days.

Interested persons can call 876-977-2327 or email plasmasupport@uhwi.gov.jm to register.

The University Hospital thanks you for your continued support and cooperation.
