UHWI Customer Service Month 2024: Celebrating the Heart of Patient Care and Service Excellence 2024

This year’s Customer Service Month at the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI) was a celebration of dedication, resilience, and community under the theme “Above and Beyond.” The theme captured the heart of what it means to provide outstanding care—going the extra mile not only for patients but also in support of the team and the entire hospital community. Throughout the month, the Customer Care Branch hosted a series of appreciation events and interactive activities. Our generous sponsors, whose support brought these celebrations to life, were an invaluable part of making this month truly exceptional.

Month-Long Celebration Highlights: Going “Above and Beyond” Together

Customer Service Month 2024 included a variety of engaging activities and appreciation initiatives that made a lasting impact on both staff and patients. Here’s a look back at some of the standout moments from the month:

1. Scavenger Hunt: A Fun Challenge for Team Unity

The Scavenger Hunt that transformed UHWI’s campus into a series of fun, interactive zones. Staff members joined forces, competing to find clues and complete challenges in a testament to their teamwork and problem-solving skills. This activity underscored the idea that exceptional service is a collaborative effort—where every individual plays a vital role in supporting patient care.

2. Quiz Competition: Acknowledging Knowledge and Professionalism

In a spirited Quiz Competition, UHWI staffs were challenged on basic general knowledge, hospital knowledge and current affairs. The competition highlighted the extensive knowledge and skill that go into delivering exceptional patient care every day.

3. Ice Cream Social: Celebrating with Sweet Treats and Connection

The Customer Care Branch hosted an Ice Cream Social to bring a refreshing pause to the busy schedules of UHWI staff. Staff members gathered to enjoy a variety of flavours and connect with each other. This gathering brought a sense of warmth and community to the month’s events, allowing employees to enjoy a well-deserved moment of relaxation and camaraderie.

4. Care Packages: Tokens of Appreciation for Patients

Throughout Customer Service Month, the Customer Care branch distributed Care Packages to mothers on the maternity block as a small but heartfelt token of appreciation. Each package was thoughtfully prepared with items that promote wellness and comfort.

5. Patient Appreciation: Tea Station and Refreshment Distribution to Foster Connection

Customer Service Month also included a focus on Patient Appreciation, with events designed to make patients feel valued and respected. A Tea Station was set up in a central location of the hospital, offering complimentary tea, and light refreshments to patients and their families. Additionally, Customer Care Officers distributed refreshments throughout patient areas, creating an environment that reflected UHWI’s commitment to going “above and beyond” for its patients.

Special Appreciation Days: Honouring Customer Care Officers 

Specific days were set aside to celebrate staff with unique gestures that deepened the connection within Customer Care Branch:

  • Officers Appreciation Week: A full week was dedicated to recognizing the contributions of Customer Care Officers, complete with gratitude. These days reinforced a strong sense of community and unity, with words and tokens of appreciation that uplifted and inspired the team.
